James Gunn recently said that he's up for a Marvel/DC crossover movie. We've all heard of comic book crossovers, and while it wouldn't be possible for the characters of both companies to appear in the same movie, they have been done before. While we may never get to see such a movie, there are a couple of things you can look forward to if a crossover movie does happen.

In the comics, it's not uncommon for Marvel and DC characters to cross paths. The last crossover occurred 18 years ago in JLA/Avengers, but the likelihood of that happening in live-action is slim. But thanks to James Gunn, director of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad movies, we can get a better idea of how it might turn out.

If the idea of a crossover movie isn't a rousing enough pitch, then how would you sell it to Marvel? The director admits he has a fan obsession with Easter eggs, and has even tweeted about it. So what's the catch? Gunn has a lot of work to do for DC and Marvel, and he's working on the Suicide Squad, a big antihero movie, which will hit theaters on August 6 and May 23, 2023, respectively.

While James Gunn has previously said he's up for a Marvel-DC crossover movie, the filmmaker hasn't directly pitched the idea to DC. In fact, he said he's only discussed the crossover with Kevin Feige "in passing" on Twitter. While it's possible that Marvel will pursue this, it's unlikely that the project will ever become a reality.

Comic book crossovers have happened in the past

Marvel DC comic book crossover movies have happened in several different forms. The first one was the Justice League crossover, followed by a sequel and a Batman Vs. Hulk movie. Later, a crossover movie between the Teen Titans and Justice League would come out. After these crossover movies, the DC and Marvel comic book companies put an end to the crossovers. This is probably because superhero movies were in full swing by 2004. After all, the artists had to draw all those characters together!

In other crossovers, DC and Marvel will occasionally throw in a quiet crossover. Elongated Man has appeared in Iron Man, while Barry Allen died in Crisis On Infinite Earths #8. The other way that Marvel and DC comic book crossovers have worked is through a series of small, unofficial crossovers. The Uncanny X-Men, for example, were first introduced in Secret Wars II #7.

While DC and Marvel have rivalries, they have interconnected universes and lore. Thus, a crossover movie between the two would feel out of place. That's a common misconception that has prevented several Marvel and DC comic book crossover movies from happening. But this doesn't have to be the case. Warner Bros. and DC aren't in a position to make one

While the film is expected to be dark and psychological, it may be better to stick with the characters that Warner Bros. already has in their stable.

The studios have a long history of superhero movies, starting with Christopher Reeve's Superman films. They then moved on to release Batman films starring Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer in the 1980s. And most recently, they've been making films starring Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot. Despite the lack of success in the comics, Warner Bros. and DC aren't in a position to make a marvel dc crossover movie anytime soon.

DC and Marvel have had several crossovers in the comics, but no one has been able to pull off a truly spectacular crossover. After all, there have only been four such crossovers in the past.
